Commentary

Time, space and chance describe the statistical probability of something happening. The world did not create itself or come about by chance. It was created by God who, by definition, is eternal and has always been. Indeed My hand has laid the foundation of the earth, and My right hand has stretched out the heavens; when I call to them, they stand up together (Isaiah 48:13). The probability of evolution comes out to about 1 in 10 2,685,000, or 10 followed by 2,685,000 zeros. For comparison, the Universe only has 1080 atoms. The universe was made with such precision that if anything was off by a fraction, we couldn't exist.

John 1:1-5

In the beginning was Jesus. His existence was in the beginning; He coexists with the Father. All things were made by him, from the highest angel to the lowly worm. The Spirit of God hovered over the waters. So in the beginning we see God, Son and Holy Spirit.

Genesis 1

In the beginning was chaos. God brought chaos into order. For thus says the LORD, Who created the heavens, Who is God, Who formed the earth and made it, Who has established it… Isaiah 45:18. When God created the earth, He quite likely built an “old” earth, creating things with age built into them. Adam was already mature when he was created. Which came first, the chicken or the egg? God made chickens that laid eggs and trees that produced seeds, etc.

Genesis 5

Day 1: God created the sun and moon on day four. On the first day, He created light. Revelation 21:23 says "The city does not need the sun or the moon to shine on it, for the glory of God gives it light, and the Lamb is its lamp". Light is more than a physical substance; it also has a supernatural aspect.

The first day was created in 24 hours. The Hebrew word for day, yom, as in English always means a twenty-four-hour literal day.

Genesis 6

Day2: The waters of the land are separated from the water vapor in the sky. A firmament is an expanse, or space. The waters above the firmament created a blanket of water vapor above the earth. This served as a global greenhouse, maintaining an essentially uniform, pleasant temperature all over the world. Without great temperature variations, there were no significant winds, and there was no rain. The vapor blanket filtered out ultraviolet radiation, cosmic rays and other destructive energies which resulted in longevity in humans and animals.

Genesis 7-13

Day 3: The entire earth was covered with water. Then the dry land was gathered together; the continents were formed to make single land mass. Plants were made with sufficient nourishment to last 24 hours before the sun was created.

God empowered the earth to generate grass, herbs and fruit trees, each according to its kind. God classified living things. Grass cannot bear fruit and apple trees cannot have animals. Dogs cannot have kittens and apes cannot conceive humans. God was delighted with His creation.

Genesis 14-19

Day 4: If the earth were closer to the sun, it would be too hot for life; and if it were farther away, it would be too cold for life. God has created the heavenly bodies just right to sustain life, to give light, seasons, days, and years. God created a purpose for every movement of the sun and of the earth. Day and night remind us of the need for worship in the morning and at night (Psalm 1:2); as well as to show man when to rest and when to work.

Genesis 20-23

Day 5: All life did not come from the same primordial cell, but it did all come from the same Designer. God deliberately structured plenty of variation within a kind, but one "kind" does not become another. Paleontologists have had to admit that fossil records totally reject the idea of millions of tiny changes. Some evolutionists admitted that they know that gradual evolution does not support the story of gradual evolution.

One day a zoo-keeper noticed that a monkey was reading two books – the Bible and Darwin's The Origin of Species. In surprise he asked the ape, "Why are you reading both those books?"
"Well, I'm trying to figure out if I'm brother's keeper or my keeper's brother."

Genesis 20-31

Day 6: Next, domesticated animals arrived on the scene. Just as with the rest of creation, these creatures were prepared by God for man's expected arrival. The earth was created for man, and it was given to him to cultivate the garden and have dominion over every living thing. God created vegetation for food. Every herb and tree that yields seed shall be food for the beasts, birds and everything that creeps on the earth. At this point, all living creatures were vegetarians.

Finally, God creates man in Our image. Here we see the Trinity. As we saw in John 1:1, Jesus was the Word that spoke everything into existence. The Spirit hovered over the waters; the Hebrew word rûaḥ means God's life giving breath. God is called Spirit not simply because He is immaterial and not bound by place, but because He is the source of a new life.

We were not created to look like God. Man is contrasted to God as flesh is to spirit. Made in the image of God, receiving life from God, man has personality, rational and moral capacities which distinguish him from other creatures and is fit him for communion with God. Man's Spirit is the seat of man's feelings and mental attitudes, in contrast to the flesh or the body. Man was given dominion over every living thing that moves on the earth. For You have made him [man] a little lower than the angels, and You have crowned him with glory and honor (Psalm 8:5).
